Inspired by the record-breaking sub-zero temperatures of the 2026 Berlin winter, SWAN is a generative visual study documented through AI-engineered imagery. During a sudden, deep freeze, the city’s canals and lakes solidified with such velocity that much of the local swan population became trapped within the ice, unable to feed.
This project serves as a somber tribute to these birds, exploring the fragility of biological grace against the absolute zero of the elements. I used generative tools to recreate the heavy, obsidian atmosphere of the freeze, focusing on a high-contrast black aesthetic that mirrors the silent grit of the winter landscape.
By blending deep, dark tones with the delicate, fragile textures of feathers and ice, SWAN transforms a local ecological tragedy into a hauntingly poetic visual tribute. The work captures the swan not as a serene icon, but as a vulnerable form caught in the stillness of a city at its coldest point.
